YouTube revamps video player for Android and iOS

The YouTube app on Android and iOS has been revamped. The interface for videos is now a lot neater. As a user you now have accessible access to all kinds of buttons. Previously you may have had to open a menu, while it can all be much simpler.

Maybe you have already noticed, but maybe not yet. In any case, YouTube has started rolling out a new interface for videos. That interface is available within the Android and iOS apps. It’s not yet clear if the web player and television app interface will also be on the upswing.

The new interface should make it easier for users to give a video a thumbs up or down (not that other viewers see that…). You will also get easier access to the comments under a video and share your content faster than before. So, all in all, improvements.

Twitter won’t load because you didn’t give permission.

The old version of the interface hid many of these functions under a menu that you had to conjure up. From now on you will find the option for more videos directly on the screen, in the corner on the right. See the image above in the tweet to get a good impression of the interface.

Full screen only

Please note that the new interface is only visible the moment you watch a video in full screen mode. If you watch a video in portrait mode, the interface looks unchanged. The buttons and functions are then found in the same places where they were before, fortunately.

So the new interface is coming to both Android and iOS. Google let us know that the rollout started on Monday (January 31, 2022). Exactly how long the rollout will last is unknown. You may have already received the update, but you may also have to wait a few more days or weeks.
