There are plenty of Marvel games on the market. Some slightly better than others, but the fact remains that EA is also jumping on the train. The publisher is coming up with its own Black Panther game to be released for both PlayStation and Xbox. But what do we already know about it?
Ever since Spider-Man on the PlayStation 5, Marvel games have been hot again. That game had a fantastic story that wouldn’t look out of place in a movie. After this, we saw Miles Morales come along and Spider-Man 2 will be released in the fall. In the future that will include Black Panther.

But what do you really need to know about the new game that is in all likelihood coming out on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X? Here is all the information known so far.
Who will make Marvel’s Black Panther?
The Spider-Man games will be made by PlayStation 5 studio Insomniac Games. That studio is also busy developing a Wolverine game. Other studios are also tackling Marvel titles. For example, Square Enix made a game of The Avengers, Eidos Guardians of the Galaxy and 2K Midnight Suns.
As you can see, Marvel does not stick to one console or studio. Any creator may submit an idea after which Disney judges whether or not the idea is good. Now EA is also going with it. The company behind several Star Wars titles is going to make a game about Black Panther.
EA is having the game made by its new subsidiary Cliffhanger Studio. Its developers were previously responsible for the Shadow of Mordor games, which hang on Lord of the Rings. Games that were generally pretty well received.
Because EA is publishing, it also seems to really be a multi-platform game. The studio rarely commissions an exclusive for a special platform. So that means you’ll see this game back on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X anyway.
What will the game look like?
Although not much is known about the game yet, we can already make sense of it. The game is set in Wakanda. The developer describes it as a “rich Super Hero sandbox” where it thus seems that it is an open world game to go. So we can explore every bit of Wakanda and get to know the characters that live there.
The studio itself calls it an “original, third-person, single player Black Panther game.” So that sounds similar to the Spider-Man games on the PlayStation 5. However, much about the gameplay is not being released.
Given that Shadow of Mordor was made by the same creators, it’s possible that the choices you make will have implications later in the game. This is reinforced by the statement, “We are committed to providing fans with an authentic Black Panther experience, giving them more choice and control over their story than they have ever experienced in a story-driven video game.”
When is Black Panther coming out?
This question is difficult to answer, because EA has not yet said anything about this during the announcement. So it is difficult to estimate what stage the project is in, but it seems to be a while away. This is because the announcement ends with the call to find new collaborators.
Some games are announced right before release, while others have already been presented but are years away. Consider, for example, The Elder Scrolls V and Skull & Bones.
