Motorola introduces brand new foldable Android smartphone with razr 50 (ultra)

In New York, Motorola presented its two new folding phones. We tell you what you can do with the razr 50 and 50 ultra.

While the Motorola edge 50 ultra is only just out, Motorola is again presenting a number of new models. This time it is showing the razr 50 and 50 ultra to the world for the first time.

Although the two folding phones mainly steal the show, the company is also presenting the Motorola Tag, the company’s first tracker.

This is the new Motorola razr 50 ultra

Although not every brand has yet made the switch, we are seeing more and more folding phones entering the market. A market Motorola knows well, as it has already released a number of razr’s in recent years. Now it is the turn of the razr 50 and its flagship, the 50 ultra.

The screen on the back

Let’s start with the latter, because it really is the company’s flagship. What immediately stands out is the back. Motorola made the screen even bigger, so you can operate the smartphone even better without unfolding it. In fact, at 4 inches in size, it is the largest rear screen on the entire market.

And that operating back has made Motorola even easier. Effortlessly swipe through all kinds of screens and you can even control any app. Something you can completely personalize the way you want. This way you can quickly check your e-mail or ask something from Google Gemini.

It’s also an Always-on screen, where you can easily make it display the time or show your favorite photos. Battery management keeps your smartphone from draining too fast.

With that last feature, the Motorola razr 50 already makes ultra AI gadgets like the Rabbit R1 completely obsolete, if it wasn’t already. You can very easily ask Gemini for help from this screen. In the future, Motorola will come up with even more AI features to help you organize everything optimally, under the guise of Moto AI.

The front screen

Flip open the smartphone, and on the inside you have a 6.9-inch pOLED screen with a refresh rate between 120 and 165 Hz. Both screens have a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits, making it fine to use in full sunlight.

Both screens have Gorilla Glass Victus that ensures no scratches on the screen. You can also operate the smartphone simply in the rain, as it has Water Touch. In addition, it is water resistant, although it is better to just keep it dry.

Battery and processor

On the inside, Motorola opts for the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chip. So it is not the most powerful processor on the market, but according to the brand, it is a considered choice. It is powerful enough to perform all the tasks you want, according to the company. It is supported by 12 GB of RAM and you also have 512 GB of storage.

Also on the inside of the device is a 4000 mAh battery. It should easily last a day, according to Motorola. Still can’t make it? Then there’s Turbocharging, which allows you to charge the device at 45 W.

Camera

On the back of the device you will find the 50-megapixel main camera that takes high-res photos. The other on the back is a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. Of course, AI is also the magic word for these photos and video. With that AI, you can simply edit and enhance photos and videos.

In addition to automatic enhancement, there are other AI features for photos. For example, there is adaptive stabilization. The image stays straight when you move. If you just want to picture something moving, there is a special action shot so you don’t get a blurry image. Long Exposure is there for beautiful timelapses and superzoom ensures that when you zoom in considerably, the AI makes the picture sharper.

What stands out is that the back part that does not have a screen, but has a soft vegan leather finish. This makes the smartphone softer in the hand. You can choose from playful colors such as green, blue, orange and pink.

That leaves two things: the price and release date. The Motorola razr 50 ultra goes on sale from June 25 and costs 1,199.99 euros.

Motorola razr 50

In addition to the Motorola 50 ultra, there is also a regular 50. This too is a folding phone, only it has just lesser specs. For example, the rear screen is smaller (3.6 inches) and it also has a less powerful processor (the MediaTek Dimensity 7300X).

In addition, the 50-megapixel telephoto camera has been traded in for a 13-megapixel wide-angle/macro lens. On the inside, however, there is a 6.9-inch pOLED screen with a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The two screens both have a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits.

Like the Motorola razr 50 ultra, the regular 50 also has a leather back. Here you can choose from the colors orange, gray and sand. It will be on sale from July 1 and will cost 899.99 euros.

Motorola Tag

Finally, Motorola is also coming out with the new Moto Tag. This works with all other Android smartphones because it supports Google’s Find My Device. This tag is round like Apple’s AirTag. Instead of an Apple logo, it has Motorola’s M on it.

The company has not yet given an exact release date, but the tag should appear sometime in the next few months. However, we already know the price. It will be 49.99 euros for one copy and 139.99 euros for four.
