Motorola has unveiled the Edge 50 series. The new Android flagship is even available in a wooden variant.
You know Motorola mostly for its colorful Android phones. At MWC, for example, it even showed a concept where you can use your smartphone as an armband. That one doesn’t see the light of day today, but three other devices do.
Motorola has presented three variants of the Edge 50. While the Edge 50 Fusion is meant to be a low-cost entry-level device, with the Edge 50 Ultra it wants to challenge the established Android order. One of the models is even made of wood
AI as with other Android makers the magic word
Like other smartphone brands, Motorola cannot be left behind with AI. The devices are powered by Moto AI that bring more options to the devices.
This AI is a bit more subtle than other models. For example, it is mainly used to improve photos, but it also helps you personalize your device. Think about the user experience and, for example, a wallpaper that matches your clothes.
Still, the AI is not as extensive as Samsung’s, for example. The other AI features are mostly from Google.
The Motorola 50 Edge Ultra as an Android flagship
Let’s start with the flagship: the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra. Like other Android flagships, it runs on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. It is also the brand’s first smartphone to support Ultra Wideband. You can choose from 512 GB or 1 TB of memory and 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM.
When you hold it in your hand, you’re looking at a 6.7-inch 1220p Super HD display and a refresh rate of 144 Hz. The maximum brightness is 2500 nits.
The Motorola Edge 50 Ultra charges you at lightning speed. It has a 125 W charging speed when you charge it wired. Wireless charging goes up to a speed of 50 W.
On the back of the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra you will find a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens that you can also use as a macro lens and a 64 MP telephoto lens. The latter has 3x optical zoom and with the software you can even zoom in up to 100 times.
What stands out most about the Motorola Edge 50 Ultra is the exterior. The company opts for stylish modern materials. For example, you can choose an exterior made of wood and vegan leather. So it really is a striking device.
The Pro version as a mid-range
The Pro is intended primarily as a mid-range Android smartphone. The battery and screen match the Ultra. The major difference is mainly in the processor and camera.
For example, the Motorola Edge 50 Pro has a Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chip and 12 GB of RAM. In addition, you also get 512 GB of memory with it.

The cameras are a bit different, though. Although the main camera also has 50 MP, it is just a bit less than the Ultra. The differences get bigger with the other models. For example, there is a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 10 MP telephoto camera.
The Motorola Edge 50 Fusion as a budget option
The cheapest Android phone is the Edge 50 Fusion. This is really a step down from the other two models, though. This one has a 6.7-inch pOLED screen. Although it has a slightly larger battery at 5000 mAh, you won’t charge it as fast.
Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, 8 GB of RAM and a choice of 128, 256 and 512 GB of memory.
Prices
That leaves one thing: the prices of the devices. The Edge 50 Ultra will cost you at least 999.99 euros, the Pro 649.99 euros and the Fusion you already have for 349.99 euros.
Also new earbuds
In addition to the three new Android smartphones, Motorola also announced two new earbuds. First up are the Moto Buds+. For these, the brand partnered with Bose to provide good sound quality. Thus, it helped with active noise cancellation and EQ tuning. With Dolby Head Tracking, the sound is tuned to how you move your head.
Second, there are also the regular Moto Buds. These have Hi-Res audio and Dynamic Adaptive Noise Cancellation.The Buds+ have a price tag of 149.99 euros and the regular Buds will cost you 59.99 euros.
