OnePlus Open: what to expect from the Android smartphone?

Today the world gets to know OnePlus’ first foldable Android smartphone: the OnePlus Open. WANT got to try it for a week already and tells you all about it.

For 1799 euros, Chinese OnePlus is launching a new foldable smartphone on the Dutch market. What exactly can you expect from it and how do you like it?

OnePlus Open: familiar formula with a futuristic twist

The OnePlus Open stands out primarily for its design. Starting with the giant round camera system on the back with a 48-megapixel main camera, 64-megapixel telephoto lens and 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera.

That 64-megapixel telephoto lens in particular steals the show. Not only because of the 3x optical, but also the 6x in-sensor zoom without loss of quality. In addition, you will also find a 120x function that, as far as I’m concerned, you can just forget about.

Beyond that, the design is especially attractive. The light weight of 239 grams (lighter than an iPhone 14 Pro Max) and the thickness of 11.7mm when closed make for a pleasant feel.

The 6.31-inch display on the front of the device works like a full-fledged smartphone. But with a secret second screen in the middle of 7.82-inches.

What do we think of the OnePlus Open?

After playing with the OnePlus Open for a week, I must honestly admit that OnePlus surprised me quite a bit. There are enough functionalities and applications on the smartphone that I can get along with extremely well.

Consider the 6x zoom function of the telephoto lens or the speed with which the battery, which, by the way, lasts a full day, charges. The OnePlus Open is a joy to hold in your hands due to its sleek appearance and weight.

Only, unfortunately, I can’t ignore how that design is depressed by the giant round camera system on the back. Something that, when I carry the phone with me, I secretly feel just a little ashamed of.

The full review will follow, but the first impression is positive. The phone works like fire and it does show that patience is sometimes a virtue.

As much as I’m a fan of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 5, I have to honestly say that OnePlus is executing the concept just a little bit better at this point. And that’s handsome for a first model.
