Xbox Game Pass gets Call of Duty but as far

Xbox Game Pass gets Call of Duty, but as far as I’m concerned it doesn’t have to

There are rumors that Call of Duty games will be coming to Xbox Game Pass, but this is not necessarily as positive as it seems.

Call of Duty is one of the biggest gaming franchises in existence, especially when talking about shooters. The franchise, since the Activision Blizzard deal in 2022, officially belongs to Microsoft. This means the games are now also first-party Xbox Games.

Ever since Microsoft has had the rights to the Call of Duty franchise, there have been rumors that the games will be on Xbox Game Pass, and this likelihood is growing. Now that things don’t seem to be going so well for Microsoft they may well choose to make the popular shooter part of Game Pass. But this is not an ideal plan.

Call of Duty raised prices of Xbox Game Pass

Call of Duty on Xbox Game Pass may sound nice and all. But it’s more dangerous for consumers than you might think. Although it is not certain, there is a chance that Call of Duty would cause an increase in the price of Game Pass.

Call of Duty has been a huge gold mine for years. Everyone knows the games and a lot of people still get the new and old games as well. By putting the games on Xbox Game Pass, a lot less people are going to buy the games. More people are then going to play the game through the subscription.

While this does cause an increase in Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, it also causes a drop in sales of the Call of Duty games. It remains to be seen then how long people will remain subscribed to Game Pass. Buying and selling a game is a one and done.

So to ensure that Microsoft continues to make enough money, an increase in Xbox Game Pass prices is certainly not an impossible option. Also, the addition of these popular games makes people want to pay more for the subscription. They get more out of it.

Dangers to Microsoft

Yet adding Call of Duty on Xbox Game Pass is also certainly dangerous for Microsoft itself. The shooter games currently provide a nice and steady income for the company. So adding the games on Game Pass could go positively. But it could also go completely wrong.

The question is whether the risk is worth the potential gain. Because if it goes wrong, Microsoft really does have a big problem. And if the games do get added on Xbox Game Pass, we may fear a subscription price hike.
