The new OnePlus Nord 4 is just around the corner and will be presented July 16 at the Summer Launch Event in Milan. The Nord 4 does get a very special feature: a metal body.
Rumors were already going around and now OnePlus itself seems to throw oil on the fire. On X, the company shared a video in which metal from various angles of the image flow together to form the word Nord. In other words, that OnePlus Nord 4 is actually getting a metal body.
Plastic and glass are anno 2024 “the way to go,” but in the past, companies like Samsung, HTC and Huawei regularly opted for metal. Is there a reason behind OnePlus’ choice or does the company mainly want to revive old times?

Concerns over metal bezels in OnePlus Nord 4
Should the metal casing come with the Nord 4 it could still cause problems for the antennas in the phone. Metal does not seem to be best friends with 5G connections to date.
Although OnePlus seems to wave these concerns away with the following text on its event invitations: ‘Some say it is impossible in the 5G era to build a smartphone with the power, sophistication and lasting quality of metal. We say Never Settle,’ OnePlus said.
Lordi delivers the final blow
There is another hint that OnePlus is going to do something with metal with the Nord 4. Two days ago, OnePlus Europe’s Instagram account posted that a collaboration with Finnish rock band Lordi is imminent.

A poster from OnePlus reveals the collaboration with the text, “Made Of Metal.” Otherwise, the poster features OnePlus’ logo and the Finnish singer. Lordi of course makes metal music although their most famous song is Hard Rock Hallelujah. So everything seems to point to metal for the OnePlus Nord 4.
