Android already has the answer to Apple’s new iPhone feature

One of the new features in iOS 18 is the creation of emoji using AI. Google seems to have an answer to that in the latest Android 15 beta.

Google is betting heavily on Artificial Intelligence with Android, and Apple is doing exactly the same thing. In fact, Apple even claims the acronym by renaming it Apple Intelligence.

You can use that technology in all sorts of ways. For example, in iOS 18 we saw a feature where it is possible to create your own emoji using AI. Fortunately, to do that, you don’t seem to need just an iPhone, as Google is coming up with a similar feature.

Google has an answer to Apple’s AI emoji

If you watched the Apple Keynote, you probably remembered the genmoji. This feature in iOS 18 lets you create your own emoji by providing a description of what you want to see. Google is now working on Creative Assistant for Android.

Instead of emoji, Google’s Creative Assistant will start helping you create stickers. It works pretty much the same as the new iPhone feature. You enter a description and the AI will create a sticker for you. You can then use those in turn in your posts.

The Creative Assistant appears to be becoming a dedicated Android app. From the code, there appears to be a special remix button. This would allow you to possibly put a sticker on a photo or screenshot you are editing. Possibly the feature will also be integrated into the Photos app.

The big question is whether the feature will work on the device itself or rather through the cloud. Apple managed to impress with Apple Intelligence mainly because almost all AI was generated on the device itself, including the AI emoji. This is faster and safer than connecting to the Internet.

This is what the new Android feature looks like

The feature was first found by Android Authority in the beta version 15.3 of Android. Still, not everyone seems to be able to use the Android feature right away soon, as according to the website, this will likely be an exclusive feature for the Pixel 9 series, Google’s smartphone line. This is because it refers to the Tensor chip, which can only be found in the Pixel. Often, exclusive Pixel features later come to other Android devices.

Still, we will have to wait a while for the AI emojis and stickers. The release of iOS 18 is supposedly sometime in September and Android 15 is also coming sometime at the end of the third quarter.
