This Japanese hypercar is now the fastest electric car in the world

Japan’s Aspark has taken over the record for the world’s fastest electric car. This EV achieved a speed of 438.7 kilometers per hour.

When we think of lightning-fast cars, we immediately think of Formula 1 or, when it comes to electric cars, Formula E. Yet there are cars that really do go much faster.

Among electric cars, Japan’s Aspark is now the brand to beat. The brand’s hypercar managed a speed of 438.7 kilometers per hour.

The fastest electric car in the world

To be precise, it’s all about the Aspark OWL. And while an owl may not be the fastest bird in the sky, this one from Aspark manages to impress immensely. This electric car even looks a bit like an owl because of the eyes in the place of the headlights.

You may not know Aspark well, but the brand has been around for about 20 years now. Most of the attention during that time has been on the OWL, which has been around for about 13 years now. The OWL is by far the brand’s most important model.

Several records broken

The company already managed to break several records in terms of speed. For example, the electric OWL managed to break the record for going fastest from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. It succeeded in 1.72 seconds, literally outpacing the second-generation Tesla Roadster.

It also managed to set this EV the record for the highest speed in 200 meters: 309.02 kilometers per hour and the fastest 400 meters at 318.85 kilometers per hour. However, that is nothing compared to the new record for the highest top speed by an electric car: 438.7 kilometers per hour. Aspark managed to set this record at the Automotive Testing Papenburg circuit in Germany.

And that is not surprising when you look at the Aspark OWL, as it is good for some 1,980 horsepower. It also has a range of 400 kilometers.

Now if you’re thinking: I want that electric car, you’ll need a big wallet. The entry-level model of the OWL costs 2.9 million euros. If you want one with a chassis made entirely of carbon, you’ll spend 3.5 million euros.

Aspark’s electric car is very exclusive, as only fifty of them will be made. It takes up to 12 months before the OWL is actually in your driveway.
