With iOS 17.1.1, Apple released a new version of the iPhone operating system. It had to be, because several devices were running into quite a few problems.
A few weeks ago, Apple released iOS 17.1, which already fixed some annoying problems. Think, for example, of the iPhone warming up and the “burned-in screen. Still, not all bugs were gone, and for that iOS 17.1.1 has been released.
Issues fixed with iOS 17.1.1
Apple has fixed some new problems in iOS 17.1.1. One notable improvement is that you can now again wirelessly charge the iPhone 15 in a BMW. Previously, the phone could overheat and crash as a result.
There were also problems with the NFC chip in some cars. After wireless charging in the car, some users were unable to pay via Apple Pay on the iPhone. This, too, has been fixed.

But even if you don’t have a BMW, iOS 17.1.1 is worth installing. Some users still experienced Wi-Fi connectivity issues with earlier versions. These problems have also been addressed in the new iPhone update. In addition, another problem has been fixed: for some iPhone owners, the smartphone suddenly shut down in the middle of the night, which is obviously not convenient when you use your phone as an alarm clock.
A bug you may not have noticed on your iPhone yet is the display of snow in the Weather app. This too has been addressed, so you will soon have an easier time seeing if it will be a white Christmas.
New features on your iPhone with iOS 17.2
For truly new features, we have to wait for iOS 17.2. With this version, you get access to the Journal app. This lets you keep a digital journal using machine learning, which gives you suggestions on what to write about or what photo to post. This is not only fun to do, but also helps to better chart your mental health.
Apple Music members can also expect a surprise with iOS 17.2. It will then become possible to create a playlist with friends on the iPhone. You can easily invite them and they can add and delete songs.

There are also new features coming to iMessage. First, there is iMessage contact key authentication. This allows you to manually verify who is sending you messages, which further improves the security of conversations with people in your contacts and prevents criminals from impersonating, say, a friend.
In addition, iMessage will soon allow you to respond to messages using stickers or memoji.
The release date of iOS 17.2 is not yet known, but it is expected to be later this year. iOS 17.1.1 is currently available for the iPhone XR and XS and newer.
