Google is introducing a cheaper Android model in its series with the Pixel 8a. We tell you exactly what to expect from the cheaper version of the Pixel 8.
Just as Samsung has the FE version of its smartphones, Google has the a-line with the Pixel. With the Pixel 8a, this tradition continues.
But what exactly can you expect from the 8a? How much less is this device than the regular Pixel 8 and 8 Pro? We take you through.
This is the Google Pixel 8a
As with the regular Pixel 8, the 8a has AI at its core. Consequently, this device contains the exact same chip as the more expensive models: Google’s own Tensor G3. Added to that is 8 GB of RAM and 128 or 256 GB of storage.
The Google Pixel 8a will include the familiar AI features, such as the Magic Eraser for photos and audio, as well as Best Recording. Of course, circle to search cannot be missing either and you will soon also have access to audio emojis.

For the display, Google chose a 6.1-inch Actua OLED with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and a refresh rate of 120Hz. It is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. On the inside of the device is a 4492 mAh battery that should give you a battery life of 24 hours.
The camera of the Google Pixel 8a
Photograph with the 64 MP Quad PD wide-angle camera with an aperture of ƒ/1.89. On the back, you will also find a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle lens with an aperture of ƒ/2.2.
Selfies are taken with the 13 MP camera on the front. With the cameras on the back it is possible to shoot 4K videos at 60 frames per second, on the front these are 30 frames.
Google, as with the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, is giving seven years of software support. So all these years you will receive the latest Android version with the corresponding new features on the Pixel 8a.

Now also on sale at Vodafone, KPN and Mediamarkt
Until previously, the Google Pixel was on sale only at Odido and Belsimpel. That’s now joined by three major chains. You can find the Google Pixel 8a, as well as the 8 and the 8 Pro at KPN, Vodafone and Mediamarkt.
The Google Pixel 8a will be available from May 14 starting at 549 euros. It is now possible to pre-order the Android smartphone.
