The Nintendo Switch owes much of its immense success to its unique design. A console that you can connect to the television at home as well as carry in your backpack while traveling. The best of Nintendo’s previous consoles, the Wii and the DS, came together in the process.
Still, many gamers will catch themselves saying that the Switch is more often connected to the TV than using it in handheld. And while basically all games are handheld or travelable, not all of them are practical. We figured out for you which games do come in handy for travel.
These games on the Nintendo Switch are perfect for travel
If you have to sit on a plane for hours, it won’t be a problem. But those who take the Nintendo Switch with them on the train, bus or car won’t be able to game for long enough to fully immerse themselves in a game. With these games, that’s not a problem: They’re perfect for travel.
Slay The Spire
Slay The Spire is a fast-paced, challenging and addictive game. The pots are short and different every time. It is a deckbuilding roguelite. That means you play the game with different cards. As you progress, you can add new and stronger cards to your deck. The further you get in “The Spire,” the weirder the monsters get, but the better the loot gets.
It’s very easy to start up the game and play a handful of pots on the Nintendo Switch. That makes it perfect for playing it during a short bus ride and then restarting it after your change. Of course, the game is also fun if you want to play for hours at a time. Highly recommended!

Stardew Valley
It’s like spending a day hard at work. Fortunately, the days only last about 20 minutes. In Stardew Valley, you own a farm and try to make as much money as you can. Sow, harvest, fish, gather and pull up with your neighbors. It sounds simple, but don’t let the cozy feel fool you.
Stardew Valley has tremendous depth to offer. From improving your tools to even brawling with monsters in dark caves. There are many ways to play the game. In addition, there are a lot of interesting quests you can discover in the world. And all in short “days” in the game. Perfect to spend a day working on the land in between.

Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Originally, the puzzles in Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker were part of Super Mario 3D World on the Wii-U and on the Nintendo Switch. However, these levels were so loved by fans that Nintendo made them a full game. In these levels, play as Captain Toad in search of various treasures. It is a typical puzzle platformer that lets you take a good look at the levels from all angles.
The levels are short. So it’s ideal to do a few of them. The puzzles do get harder as the game progresses. Fortunately, the game never gets unfair. So you don’t have to continue your journey frustrated.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons
This game experienced absurd success during the corona pandemic. After all, who wouldn’t want to spend time on an island where nothing must but everything is allowed? That’s exactly what you do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. You can decorate your island however you want and connect with your islanders. In fact, there is always something to do.
Whether you’re picking weeds, catching fish or collecting apples: there’s always something to do. That’s what makes it so perfect for travel. You can briefly turn on your Nintendo Switch to briefly do your daily chores on the island. But beware: before you know it, you’re hours away!

Moonlighter
In Moonlighter, you play as a store owner during the day and an adventurer in the evening. You dive into dungeons to collect treasures and items that you then sell to customers. With the money you earn you can buy better equipment.
So despite your character spending considerable hours at work, in real life you are not. Your store is only open for a few minutes and the dungeons are short and fast. This makes it easy to play on the train, for example. And as with many indie games, Moonlighter looks incredibly beautiful on the Nintendo Switch.

Super Mario Bros Wonder
Nintendo fans are still waxing lyrical about Super Mario Bros Wonder. And with good reason. It may be the best 2D Mario ever. Critics will say the game is sometimes a little too easy. So what, we say to that. The levels are nice and short, but super unique time after time.
In 10 minutes you could well have played about three levels. The game also has an option to always save. Thus, you will never lose your progress if you need to switch or take a break from your game. The cute and cheerful look of the game also puts you in a good mood while traveling. Your fellow travelers will like that.
