WWDC 2023 looks to be the home for these new Apple products

Just a few more days to wait and then WWDC 2023 will erupt. When it comes to technology, the Worldwide Developer Conference is one of the biggest events of the year. In addition to software, Apple is guaranteed to show hardware, but what can we expect?

Although WWDC 2023 is primarily aimed at developers, you can always expect the Cupertino-based tech giant to come up with some remarkable news. What do we expect to see this edition?

Finally Apple’s VR/AR headset at WWDC 2023

For quite some time there have been persistent rumors that Apple is coming out with a VR/AR headset. Now it seems that it will definitely be presented at WWDC, according to journalist Mark Gurman of Bloomberg.

And Apple may have even given us a hint. Things are already erupting on social media with “hidden references” in the poster for WWDC 23. Naturally, people are looking cross-eyed for small hints pointing to Apple’s much-discussed AR/VR headset before this event. But are they really there to be found?

Apple has chosen beautiful colorful waves for WWDC 2023. They immediately remind us of the rainbow seen at the headquarters in Cupertino. But there are those who see clear references to the AR/VR headset in them.

Specifically, the WWDC invite resembles what is called a pancake lens array (🥞yum!), which is often used in… VR goggles. pic.twitter.com/TlVhat2cAr

Other fun toys and updates

In addition to the headset, according to Gurman, Apple also plans to showcase other new hardware at WWDC 2023. While he does not explicitly say which new toys, he does indicate that Apple is working on the following machines and that they will most likely come out this year.

There will be a new 15-inch MacBook Air, an updated 13-inch MacBook Air, and a new 13-inch and “high-end” MacBook Pro. Meanwhile, on the Mac side, Apple has yet to replace its latest Intel-based device, the Mac Pro, with an Apple Silicon model, and also has plans to revamp its all-in-one 24-inch iMac.

What is WWDC?

WWDC is Apple’s annual conference that showcases new software updates and technologies for developers. It provides access to tools and resources to create apps for Apple platforms. There are keynote presentations, workshops and sessions on topics related to Apple platforms and technologies. It attracts thousands of developers worldwide and is usually held in June. New hardware has also been on display for some time.

Anyway Apple VR/AR set to be the star of WWDC 2023

All in all, of course, we are mostly on the edge of our seats as far as Apple’s headset is concerned. Indeed, there is still a (small chance) that we won’t get to see it at WWDC 2023. Should this be the case, specialists such as Gurman as well as Ming-Chi Kuo have the following expectations.

The device will reportedly be called the Reality Pro and will run on a new Apple operating system called xrOS. In January, Bloomberg reported that the headset will have advanced features such as hand tracking, eye tracking and support for digital avatars in FaceTime calls.

It will also get a digital crown that allows the headset to switch between AR and VR. In addition, it will likely have two hours of battery life and must be tethered to a separate battery. It probably won’t be a cheap toy: estimates are that it will cost around $3,000.

We’ll see at WWDC 2023 whether the Reality Pro will be worth it.
