Even though we use our iPhone and AirPods every day, there are still tricks we are only now finding out about. One is that you have been able to eavesdrop on people for years without them realizing it.
Is there an unfamiliar iPhone on a table you’re sitting at? Then you may well be overheard. Apple’s AirPods have a special feature: live listening.
Although this feature is mainly for people who are hard of hearing and better able to pick up a conversation, you can also secretly listen in on a conversation.
Eavesdropping on people with your AirPods and iPhone
With Live Listening, your iPhone or iPad acts as a microphone that sends sound to your AirPods or Beats earbuds. You put your phone in front of someone, then hear exactly what’s being said through your AirPods.
It’s an ideal feature that allows you to still hear a conversation well in a crowded room with your AirPods. Ideal for the hearing impaired to still be able to join a conversation.

But you can of course use it for other functions as well. In total, it is possible to listen 15 meters from the iPhone. This can be done even if you are in another room. This also allows you to secretly eavesdrop on conversations with your AirPods, but there are other functions to consider. For example, it can also serve as a baby monitor.
Here’s how to use the feature
So a handy feature, but how do you use it on your AirPods? First, you need to add the feature to the control panel. To do this, on your iPhone, go to Settings > Control Panel. Then scroll down and tap the plus sign next to Hear.
