Formula 1 stays with Viaplay so you pay substantially more starting next month

Viaplay has managed to retain the rights to Formula 1 and paid substantially more for them than it did in 2022. Three guesses as to who gets to rake like crazy from May of this year.

Not Ziggo or RTL, but Viaplay will again be the owner of Formula 1 rights in the Netherlands from 2025. Until 2029 the Swedish giant is the place where we can admire motor racing. Something for which it did not have to tap 30 million euros (as in 2022), but 45 million euros.

Nice for Viaplay, less nice for you. Whereas last year the streaming service still threw up its subscription price to 15.99 euros per month, as of May 22 this year users will pay 17.99 euros. This was known before, but now seems to have actually been communicated to users.

Viaplay gives Dutch Formula 1 fan hefty price increase

Back in February it became clear that Dutch Formula 1 fans would be facing a price increase at Viaplay for the second time. This has now been confirmed by an email sent by the streaming service to Dutch users. In it it is stated that one can count on an increase of 12.5 percent.

This is most likely the result of the absurdly high price Viaplay paid to retain the rights to Formula 1. The streaming service lapped up some 45 million euros, where two years ago it got away with 30 million.

As mentioned, this is the second time in a little over a year that Viaplay has thrown up prices. In January last year, the monthly fee was raised from 13.99 euros to 15.99 euros per month. So now another two euros is added to that, making the monthly fee 4 euros more expensive in a short time.

In addition to Formula 1, Viaplay is also home to other sports. For example, in addition to Premier League and Bundesliga matches, you can also see Dutch darters Michael van Gerwen and Dirk van Duijvenboden shine in their matches.
