Starting today, Amazon Prime Video is raising the price of its monthly subscription. Where you as a Dutchman used to pay 2.99 euros per month for the streaming service, you will soon have to pay 4.99 euros per month. But you don’t have to.
There are several ways you can lower the new prices, which go into effect for new members from November and existing members from December. The difference is not very big, but every little bit helps.
Amazon Prime Video is slightly more expensive as of now
Several platforms talk about the lack of justification for Amazon Prime Video’s price increase. Besides the fact that it does (“we continue to invest in Amazon Prime to make membership even more valuable”), as far as I’m concerned, it doesn’t even need to.

Amazon Prime Video hasn’t cost you anything until now, and it’s not going to. The streaming service’s offerings are excellent for the price of $4.99 a month. It is at least a prime example for Netflix and Disney+, by omitting ads and offering 4K UHD resolution.

But should you find that 4.99 euros per month really too much, for example because you are watching the little things, I do have a nice tip for you. While colleague Jeroen Kraak received an e-mail with the new price of 4.99 euros per month, I received an e-mail with the new price of 4.49 euros.
Score the streaming service cheaper
The way we did the subscription is why my subscription is cheaper than Jeroen’s. He did it through the official way on Amazon itself, I did it through the App Store on my iPhone.
Why exactly I pay less is also beyond me given the commission companies have to pay Apple. But buzz off, I’m paying less for the only Amazon service I’ve used in recent years.

In case you don’t have an iPhone or don’t care much about the 50-cent difference (pretty logical), it’s also possible to finally get an annual subscription. Amazon Prime Video announces this in its email.
Those who choose that option will have to pay 49.90 euros at once and then get 12 months of access. Amazon Prime Video thus gives you two months free. So, converted, you will pay 4.16 euros per month.
