TikTok wants to take Twitch out of the equation focus

TikTok is not content and is now setting its sights on gaming as well

World-famous platform TikTok is experimenting with mini-games and game services. In doing so, it is following in the footsteps of Apple, Google and Youtube, among others.

As if the attention span of an average TikTok visitor wasn’t already triggered enough: the company is now developing minigames that can be played during videos, TechCrunch reports. You can then also post your gameplay on the platform. Probably again with a minigame on top.

Add your own game on TikTok

Users of the social media platform can in fact set the games themselves when they upload a video on TikTok. There are currently nine games in development that visitors of an account can play. To do so, they must watch the video.

So perhaps the players will get some fame themselves, since playing those games will be recorded, and thus can be reposted to their own TikTok account.

Free and for nothing

For the time being the minigames are free to play. However, it should be clear that TikTok (in collaboration with mobile gaming giant Zynga) does keep track of who plays what and for how long. That data of yours is rather expensive. Just to remind you…

It is also not excluded that, with some success, TikTok may still decide to release the games with in-app purchases. In other words, you pay for certain items or to avoid commercials.

Extensions to TikTok

Clearly, the company will not stop at “experiments” with game company Zynga alone. The company is also around the table with developers Aim Lab, Nitro Games, FRVR, Voodoo and Lotum, among others.

Twitter won’t load because you didn’t give permission.

With this, the company will compete with major players such as Apple, Google, Facebook and Netflix with respect to (mobile) gaming.

TikTok looks at YouTube and Spotify

By the way, TikTok is also on the shins of YouTube and Spotify. The company has been planning for some time to allow longer videos, as the former does. The company is also eager to get involved in the battle over music streaming services. Something that Spotify could then start to notice.

The first game tests are now in the US and a few other ‘markets’. When we will see the light of day of TikTok’s new features remains to be seen.
