‘Foldable Android smartphone Samsung gets insanely cheap’

Next year, Samsung will launch a cheaper version of its Galaxy Z Fold 6. This will make the foldable Android smartphone more affordable, and if recent rumors are to be believed, not by much.

After we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the OnePlus Open, it’s time to look ahead. Samsung is tweaking the concept a little bit to make the type of smartphone a little more accessible to most people. Something to be excited about, if you ask me.

Samsung is working on an insanely cheap smartphone

That Samsung is working on a cheap alternative to next year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, we knew for a while. Exactly how much cheaper the Android smartphone will be was not really clear before. Fortunately, Tech Reve, a well-known tipster, is changing that.

Samsung has set the price target for the mid-range foldable at $400 to $500. This is a very aggressive goal. https://t.co/7tEZONw0Jw

According to the account’s sources, Samsung aims for the Android smartphone to cost between $400 and $500. While that is obviously still quite a bit of money, it is vastly different from the current prices of foldable devices.

For example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, introduced in Seoul last summer, still has a price tag of 1879 euros. Although the device has excellent performance, this price tag still stands in the way of its great success.

A cheaper model with a price tag around $500 might change that.

How much should be given up on a cheaper model?

While a foldable Android smartphone in that price range sounds very appealing, we have to be realistic. To handle this price tag, Samsung really has to make some serious quality cuts.

Not just in terms of features, but mainly in terms of materials and components will have to be cut. Something that, with the first Galaxy Fold still in memory, I do worry a bit about.

All the more so because of the fact that no other brand seems to come to market with such a price tag. Foldable displays and the framework around them do cost a lot of money.

So in the coming months, we will have to keep a close eye on developments to see what areas Samsung needs to cut back on.
