You probably see it sometimes passing by on the street. Women who carry their smartphone like a handbag with a special case. For them (and also for men), Honor has now developed a remarkable phone.
IFA 2023 is in full swing and besides Samsung, among others, Chinese Honor is also present. You may know the brand from its Magic series. Now it is adding a striking model. Is it a smartphone or a handbag after all?
Honor with the handheld phone
Honor is coming out with the V Purse. Right now it’s still a concept, but who knows, maybe we’ll see this on the market for real soon. It is a mix between a handbag and a phone. This way your phone is not only a small pocket computer, but also a fashion accessory.
This Honor V Purse is a foldable phone. When closed, the phone is only 9 millimeters wide. This makes it considerably thinner than, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5. That one has a folded width of 13.4 millimeters.
Because the screen is on the outside, it is fine to use as a handheld. In fact, this model has an always-on screen. Of course, you can put any background you want on the phone, giving it exactly the look you want. In addition, with certain accessories like necklaces and the connectors for that on the phone, you can turn it into a handbag.
But the handheld phone, as I now affectionately call it, is not just for women. In fact, Honor is also collaborating with Burberry on some designs for men.
A little magic with the Magic V2
OK, so the Honor V Purse is still development. The Honor Magic V2 is already a bit further along. During IFA, the company will show its new flagship. Like the V Purse, it is foldable and then has a width of 9.9 millimeters. Weighing 231, it is also easy to carry.
On the back are three different cameras. They are a 50 MP main camera, a 50 MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 20 MP telephoto camera. On the front are two 16 MP cameras.
Honor also has something to offer under the hood. The smartphone runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. In addition, it has a battery with a capacity of 5000 mAh. So this one will easily last you a day. Should you still come up short, you charge at lightning speed with a speed of 66W.
You watch your favorite series on an LTPO OLED screen with 1 billion different colors. In addition, this model supports HDR 10+ and has a peak brightness of 1600 nits. The screen itself can refresh to a speed of 120Hz.

The smartphone itself runs on MagicOS 7.2, which is a custom shell around Android 13. It should be released in late 2023/early 2024. Exactly how much the Honor Magic V2 will cost and whether we will actually see it in the Netherlands is not yet known.
