Apple is rolling out a brand new firmware update this week for the MagSafe Battery Pack that attaches to the back of your iPhone. You’ll recognize the firmware update by version number 2.7.b.0. If you do not yet have that number on your battery pack, then you will have to wait until it is your turn.
You may have already received the update, but you may also have to wait a little longer for it. Either way, it’s helpful to know exactly what that update brings. Apple doesn’t often release updates for the MagSafe Battery Pack, and rarely does it suddenly make chargers work faster.

Because that’s exactly what’s going on. When you pull in the latest firmware update, you charge your iPhone a little faster than before. That’s according to an updated support page from the company. Of course, this is done via that aforementioned official MagSafe Battery Pack from the tech giant.

So what exactly is the difference? Well, basically fifty percent compared to what it was before. That’s another big improvement. Previously, the MagSafe Battery Pack for your iPhone charged at 5 watts, but now that has been increased to 7.5 watts. Such updates are more than welcome.
Force update
If you haven’t received the update yet, don’t worry. Apple explains that you can force it. All you have to do is connect the MagSafe Battery Pack to a Mac or iPad. After about five minutes, the update will be done automatically, the company says.
The current MagSafe Battery Packs only work with the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series. In the future, some devices will undoubtedly be added. We may also welcome more accessories that can provide iPhones with additional power wirelessly.
