The iPhone 15 is coming, and that means iOS 17 will soon be available. That’s not only good news for your iPhone, but also for your AirPods Pro. Those are getting some new features.
At Apple Wonderlust, of course, we saw mostly the iPhone 15 and the Apple Watch models. Yet there was also a brief focus on the AirPods Pro 2. As of now, it will also be sold with a case with USB-C port, and its recommended retail price has dropped to 279 euros. But much more news is coming.
New updates for your AirPods Pro 2.
Right now the firmware is being updated to version 63001. Unfortunately, you can’t do that yourself as it happens automatically. However, you can see what version is currently running on your AirPods Pro 2. You do this by pressing the “i” when the device appears in your iPhone menu.
#1 Adaptive audio
In addition to transparency mode and noise cancellation, adaptive audio is now coming to the AirPods Pro 2. This mode is a mix between the first two. The earbuds automatically adjust the sound to the environment. That way you can still hear what’s going on around you, but you’re not otherwise affected.
#2 Muting with your AirPods Pro 2
Your AirPods Pro 2 are ideal for making calls. Still, you may occasionally want to mute yourself during a call. Perhaps to briefly say something to someone or if you are in a loud environment.
To mute yourself during a conversation now, you still have to do so via your iPhone or iPad. Soon it will be enough to press the stalk of your AirPods Pro 2 once.

#3 Conversational awareness
Talk about background noise while making a call. There is also another feature that allows you to still have a conversation while the music is on. Call Awareness reduces the noise around you for those on the other end of the line and amplifies your voice.
In addition, you also notice yourself when someone wants to talk to you while you have your AirPods Pro 2 in. When this happens, the music automatically turns down a bit so you can hear the person better.
#4 Personalized volume
This feature on your AirPods Pro 2 uses machine learning. The device learns how you prefer to listen to music and adjusts the volume accordingly. This is also good for your ears, as it reduces the risk of hearing damage.
#5 Better connection between your AirPods Pro 2 and other devices.
According to Apple, the AirPods Pro 2 connect to other devices faster after the new firmware update. So this will allow you to switch through music faster when you command the next song, for example.
What’s also going to be faster is Siri. You won’t have to say “Hey Siri” now, as just “Siri” will suffice.
