No lol: Ubisoft postpones Skull and Bones for the millionth time

The day you basically knew would come again is here. Ubisoft has postponed the game Skull and Bones for the umpteenth time. What is going on anyway?

Let’s go back to the beginning, six years ago, to 2017 to be exact. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag was a huge hit. In that game, you could sail a ship and board other ships. This popularity was the reason for Ubisoft to come up with a new pirate game, and so they announced Skull and Bones.

Where is Ubisoft now with Skull and Bones?

It seemed like a logical move and also a fairly easy game to develop. The techniques could be taken from Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. So you would think it wouldn’t take long. However, practice shows otherwise.

Over the past year, Skull and Bones’ release date had already been postponed several times: first to November 8, 2022, then to March 8, 2023, and then sometime in the same year. Now the game has been moved again, this time to the fourth quarter of the year 2024, that is, between January and March 2024.

Of course, it’s understandable that they don’t want to release the game now. The last quarter of this year has already seen quite a few big games released, such as Spider-Man 2, Starfield, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Baldur’s Gate 3. Still, it’s painful to delay the game again, especially considering how many times this has already happened. Besides, November and December are still not very busy in terms of major game releases.

Good or bad?

Still, we have to defend the makers of Skull and Bones somewhat, because releasing a game too early can have serious consequences, as we saw with Cyberpunk 2077. Although this is now a great game, it took quite a while for this to become the case after its release.

With such a frequent history of postponements, high expectations arise, but at the same time there are also laughs. The release of this game now really seems to be a running joke. So the big question is: Will Ubisoft ever come out with Skull and Bones again?
