Skyrim is one of the biggest games to appear on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game was so popular that it even came to the PS5 and Series S/X. True fans can enjoy a free game in The Elder Scrolls series this year.
Skyrim is definitely among my favorite games of all time. The RPG gave you all the freedom to do whatever you wanted. You could choose which side of a major conflict you participated in, and there was an awful lot to explore outside of the missions.
Not surprisingly, many people are waiting for a new installment. Although Xbox has already teased the game, it looks like we will have to wait for years to come. The release is not expected before 2026.
Skyrim lovers must be patient
Skyrim is part of The Elder Scrolls series, which also includes several other RPGs, such as Morrowind and Oblivion. Although the last game is from 2006, rumors suggest that a remake or remaster will be released this year or next.
That’s good news for fans of Skyrim, but there’s more in the pipeline. Unlike the Oblivion remake/remaster, another The Elder Scrolls game is officially in the works, and it’s also completely free.
However, there is an important caveat: this game will not be released on the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X. This may sound strange considering Bethesda, the developer of Skyrim, is owned by Microsoft, but it has a logical explanation. The new game is being developed specifically for smartphones and tablets.
This is The Elder Scrolls: Castle
This new game is called The Elder Scrolls: Castle. Unlike traditional RPGs, this game, made by the developers of Skyrim, gives you control of your own castle and dynasty.
Several family members appear in this game, over which you have actual control. You give them tasks and can even appoint heirs to the throne, all with the goal of making your own kingdom as large as possible. However, if you do not take good care of all family members, they may target your throne and even plan assassination plots.
In this game from the creators of Skyrim, you can build exactly the castle you want. You decide which rooms it has and what it all looks like. At the same time, you have to perform various quests, such as battles against enemies that you may know from the regular The Elder Scrolls games.

This game might remind you of Fallout Shelter, which works in a similar way. So Bethesda knows how to make such a game a success.
When is this free game coming out?
You’ll have to wait a while for its release, as the App Store lists a release date of December 2024. Still, there is a chance that it will appear sooner, as Bethesda says the game is slowly being rolled out in different countries over the next few months.
The game will be completely free, but you will have to pay for certain add-ons. Most likely these add-ons will offer cosmetic options and probably speed up your progress in the game. So just be patient, but you can already set up a notification on the App Store and Google Play.ot that time, just play Skyrim through Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus.
