In addition to its focus on privacy, many consumers now know that Apple is fully committed to the environment. The USB-C adapter already disappeared from the iPhone’s box and many a keynote talks about sustainability.
That focus is already an important step, of course, but how well is Apple actually doing in this area? Two days before International Earth Day (2022), we’ll get the answer.
This is how sustainable Apple really is
In the past year, Apple, in terms of sustainability, has made great strides. The American company itself announces this. Almost 20% of the materials used in products were recycled. A milestone in the company’s growing plans to leave a lesser mark on the environment. Perhaps an even bigger milestone can be found in the area of aluminum. Over 59% of the material used came from recycling.
Among the milestones is the result of a major innovation. Apple uses the Taz machine that is in the position to recover more materials at the time of recycling electronic devices. This goal is achieved by separating magnets and audio modules, for example.

Plans for the future
Apple’s ambitions in this area are great. For example, the American company has a desire to put its products only in completely plastic-free packaging starting in 2025. Currently, Apple uses only 4% plastic for its packaging, so that goal is certainly achievable. There is also a desire to be completely climate neutral from 2030.
The end goal, by the way, is clear. Lisa Jackson, Vice President of Environment, wants Apple to no longer need anything from the earth. “One day we want to make products without taking anything from the earth,” she reveals.
By the way, Apple is not only sharing its own accomplishments this week. In honor of International Earth Day, the company is calling more attention to the environment at all. Of course, it is using services like Music, Podcasts and Fitness+ to do so.
