Will Smith reacts to his own comeback for Apple TV+

Will Smith has finally made his comeback. The actor saw many projects cancelled after he punched Chris Rock during the Oscars. Soon we will see him appear on Apple TV+. He does his story opposite Trevor Noah of The Daily Show.

It’s almost impossible to imagine now, but at one time Will Smith was one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood. Consequently, virtually every studio boss wanted him in his film, making him the highest paid actor. How different is it now? Hardly anyone dares venture into the actor anymore, except Apple TV+.

Will Smith and Chris Rock during the Oscars

We go back for a moment to Will Smith’s fatal moment, which was actually Chris Rock’s fatal moment. Smith dealt a blow to Rock during the Oscar ceremony after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair.

After the Oscar ceremony, film producers pulled their hands off Will Smith en masse. Netflix, for example, cancelled a number of the actor’s projects. One of the few media companies that did go ahead with Smith was Apple TV+.

Last night, Will Smith was a guest of Trevor Noah on The Daily Show. In the interview, he again expressed regret for his hit during the Oscars, but it didn’t really come across as sincere. “I lost it. You never know what’s going through somebody. We just have to be nice to each other.”

Still, he seems to be doing the interview mostly for his own sake, as he reveals that he fears his new Apple TV+ movie Emancipation will take the hit.

Will Smith promotes Emancipation on Apple TV+

Will Smith didn’t sit with Trevor Noah to go through the dust again because of the Oscars. He was mostly there to promote the new Apple TV+ movie. Something that gave a somewhat weird vibe to the interview. Also because at first he was rather giggly about it.

We should just be nice to each other

“Emancipation is an absolute masterpiece by Antoine Fuqua. Bob Smith, Ben Foster and everyone who collaborated on the film are top artists in the world and they made one of their best works in their career. And then the idea that this is all being ignored because of me. That really hurts me.”

Will Smith goes on to say, “I hope their work is honored and not tainted by the bad decision I made.” By which, of course, he is referring to the Oscars.

Attention to Slavery

The Apple TV+ movie is about slavery, and there can’t be enough attention to it, according to Will Smith. “My daughter asked me, ‘Dad, do we need another slavery movie?’ And I said, ‘Honey, I promise I’m not making a slavery movie. This is a movie about freedom.'”

What is Emancipation?

Emancipation is about a man who escapes from slavery. Relying on his wits, faith and deep love for his family, he tries to avoid the hunters who target him through the unforgiving swamps of Louisiana. The film starring Will Smith is based on the 1863 photographs of “Whipped” Peter. A slave struck with a whip.

For Emancipation, you’ll have to wait a while longer. The film will premiere in various cinemas on December 2. A week later, on December 9, the project will be released on Apple TV+.
