The less-thick Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 will feature a larger screen on the outside, unlike its predecessors, according to early rumors. And it’s about time.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, along with the Flip 6, is Samsung’s next big flagship. Although we are still in full swing with the S24 series right now, you too understand that the rumor mill is already starting to turn.
Whereas we normally don’t take this kind of news too seriously this early, now there is hope. Because this mock-up shows exactly what is wrong with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and what the Galaxy Z Fold 6 can do much better.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: great progress?
In the United States, Samsung has been awarded a patent by the USPTO, better known as the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It is a patent attractively named “Electronic Device Including Flexible Display. In other words, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, of course.
Attached to that overall patent are numerous schematic drawings that focus on the design of the Android smartphone and the necessary means for it. In particular, the modified hinge suggests that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is thinner than its predecessors.

Something with which Samsung seems to be addressing at least one of the two major problems of recent years. Especially when folded, the devices are simply too thick, which the lack of a wide front screen makes perhaps even more annoying than necessary.
In addition to getting thinner Android smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 actually seems to be getting a larger screen on the outside. Something that is especially noticeable in the mock-up created by Pigtou and xLeaks7.
Competition drives development
Yes, we hear such rumors every year and companies are granted countless patents every year. Yet this time, it seems more likely to actually happen. After all, there is a fair amount of pressure coming from the market.
While Samsung is still the pioneer of foldable smartphones, the small market is now being stormed by other companies as well. Google, OPPO, Motorola and OnePlus are offering resistance. And how.

The OnePlus Open, released late last year, managed to do especially well. The camera system, battery and especially the display impressed and showed that Samsung’s solution is not necessarily the best in the West.
Motorola set this example by already improving its Flip competitor, which inspired Samsung to give the Galaxy Z Flip 5 a bigger screen last year. And we have a feeling that the Fold’s turn will come in 2024.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5
An improved Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 is something I am really looking forward to. Especially given the enthusiasm with which the Flip 5 was received, I can’t help but be curious about what the Fold 6 can offer us this year.
Because if you watch the video below, you’ll see that what Samsung is doing (outside of the design) is good:
