It’s starting to look more and more like one of the best headphones on the market is getting a successor. Rumors have been pointing out to us for some time that the Sony WH-1000XM5 will be available soon. But what kind of improvements will the headphones bring?
The Sony WH-1000XM5 is the successor to one of the most popular headphones on the market. Where these already bring with them quite a few fine features, there is of course one important question: do the headphones come with better battery life?
Sony WH-1000XM5: better battery life or same story?
For a few days now, we’ve known what the Sony WH-1000XM5 will look like. At least, if the leaked images that appeared earlier this week are the real deal. The first impression? The successor to Sony’s most popular headphones will get a new look and a significant battery upgrade. Although it remains to be seen whether this is actually the case.
Today, not renders, but actual photos of the headphones surfaced. It seems to be a retail unit of the Sony WH-1000XM5, which manages to make previous reports more credible. Mainly in terms of the design, as it seems to have actually changed. But in the area of the battery, there is a mistake. Namely, it is not better at all.
So earlier rumors revealed that the Sony WH-1000XM5 would last as much as forty hours on a full charge. Ten hours longer than the current model. In practice, however, it seems that this improvement is not there. The 1000XM5, like its predecessor, offers a battery life of 30 hours. Whether that thirty hours is counted with noise cancellation on or off is not known at this time.
Sleek design and smart assistants
The new Sony WH-1000XM5 is still a while away. There is no word yet on when the headphones will appear on the market. However, it is clear that it will eventually appear on the market with a new design. There is also talk of new features such as support for smart assistants. Think of the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa.
