Studio Display faces problems: users cannot update

Owners of the Studio Display are out of luck. First there are problems with the camera and now they can’t manage to update the display. If you run into this problem, Apple recommends contacting customer service. You can also return the screen so it can be repaired.

You may have encountered the problem yourself. The moment you try to update the Studio Display, you are presented with an error message. Not only is updating to the latest firmware impossible, owners are instructed to contact Apple and repair services.

Studio Display no longer updates

The message also states that users can first wait another hour to update. If the problem persists, then it’s time to get in touch. Pairing the screen with another Mac or restarting the monitor does not seem to fix the problem. So for many people there is nothing else to do.

At the time of writing, it’s not exactly clear why it is that the Studio Display no longer wants to update. Apple itself has not yet released anything about this. In addition, it is not clear whether Apple is aware of the problems and whether the company can solve this particular problem for everyone.

More problems for the screen

So this is incredibly annoying for owners of the expensive screen; after all, it’s important to keep software up to date. This is not the first time there have been problems. Earlier it turned out that the camera in the Studio Display did not quite work as expected.

However, it is still the case that Apple did not release an update that solves the problem with the camera. It would be a bit ironic if this is the firmware update of course, but we think the chances are small. Anyway: if you encounter this problem, please contact Apple immediately.
