The vacation season is the time of year we look forward to en masse. At least during your vacation, you won’t be anywhere without your Apple Watch. It’s a perfect companion by itself, but with this one handy feature, it’s totally your best friend.
What on earth are we talking about? Although you can spend your vacation just fine in the Netherlands, going abroad is still a popular choice. Of course, that often brings with it a (small) language barrier. That’s where your Apple Watch can help you.

Now you probably know that you can quickly whip out a translation app on your iPhone to do the hard work for you, but there’s no need to take your phone out of your pocket or bag at all if you have an Apple Watch.
The only downside is that you have to set Siri’s language to English first. You can do this through the Settings at Siri and search under Language. Dutch is unfortunately not yet supported. As long as your English is up to par, this shouldn’t be a problem.

Siri as personal translation assistant
Then simply ask your translation question to Siri in English and the virtual assistant will help you get started. Ask, for example, “Hi Siri, how do you say ‘Can I have the check?’ in France?” and you’ll know the result in no time.
Siri fortunately also lets you know how to pronounce the word or phrase. If you want to listen to the pronunciation again, you can use the play button next to the translation to do so. Repetition is key!
A total of 11 languages can be translated by Siri on your Apple Watch. In addition to English and French, you can also turn to the smart assistant for Italian, Spanish, Korean, Mandarin, Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, German, Russian and Japanese. That should definitely get you through your vacation.
