The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is a mighty feat of technology, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t even more to get out of the foldable device. A special app makes the tiny screen on the outside of your flipperino a lot more convenient. WANT editor Sabine is only too happy to explain what on earth she’s talking about.
Developer jagan2 released the app CoverScreen OS last year for the Galaxy Z Flip 3. Now this super-chic app is also available for the new Galaxy Z Flip 4. The successor to Samsung’s fold-out device was launched in August this year. Although it brings with it a number of improvements, the screen size on both the inside and outside has not changed.
CoverScreen OS for Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
The small screen on the outside of the foldable smartphone lets you check the time and weather, see notifications and control your playlist, among other things. For most applications, however, you still have to flip open the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4. And that’s exactly why CoverScreen OS is so handy. The app turns the outer screen of your Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 into a full-fledged phone screen. Exactly as you’ve been used to from a smartphone for years.
You no longer have to flip open the foldable smartphone to bring out the list of apps. These are delightfully displayed on the tiny screen thanks to CoverScreen OS. It is even possible to open some games on the mini screen. Widgets and the quick settings can also be displayed.
Samsung, are you paying attention?
Also handy: the little screen can show the caller ID of incoming calls from apps like WhatsApp or Telegram, so you have an idea of who is calling you. There is also a keyboard to use, which really leaves pretty little you can’t do with this little screen. You’d almost wonder why Samsung didn’t put this into its foldable device itself. Perhaps an idea for the Flip 5, Samsung?
Any way you slice it, the CoverScreen OS app lets you get more out of your brand-new Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 (or, of course, the slightly older Flip 3) with ease. You can use this super handy app to do pretty much anything possible when you unfold your phone. Still, it’s worth noting that the app is still under development. That means you might run into a little problem here and there, but let’s face it, that shouldn’t spoil the fun of this great app.
