Much talked about AI features Galaxy S24 Ultra coming to your old Samsung smartphone

Do you have a Samsung Galaxy S23, a Z Flip5, Z Fold5 or a Tab S9? If so, you now get some AI features with it.

With the Samsung Galaxy S24, the Korean company has set its sights full on AI. There are several features that use the technology for a better user experience.

Are you now balking at missing those features because you spent a small fortune on a new Samsung last year? Then don’t grieve, because AI is also coming to several top devices from 2023.

Samsung Galaxy S23 and Z Fold5 will also get AI

To make use of AI on the Samsung Galaxy S23 (FE) and Z Fold5 and Z Flip5, you need to install the new One UI 6.1 update. It will be available starting March 28.

You probably have your Samsung smartphone set to auto-update and the update will be installed automatically. However, if you still want to take advantage of it, go to Settings > Software Update.

Exactly what AI features are coming to older devices?

You’ve probably already seen several AI features on the Samsung Galaxy S24 in the advertisements. Most of these will soon also be available on the Galaxy S23 and the other smartphones mentioned.

For example, you can also use Circle to search. With this, you hold down the home button after which the image is frozen. Then you can make a circle around the subject you want to search for. For example, think of a cute piece of clothing you see during a Netflix series, or a pretty lamp in a photo.

There are also several handy translation functions. With Interpreter, you have an interpreter on your table, so to speak. This allows you to tell your cab driver on vacation exactly where to go in his own language.

Another handy feature is Live Translate. This instantly translates phone calls. Unfortunately, Dutch is not yet supported, but Samsung hopes it will be possible by the end of the year. At least English works, so if you speak that language, it’s a nice feature.

But AI isn’t just there with speech. It is also ideal for improving your photos. You can do this with Generative Edit. For example, this feature removes reflections when you photograph through a window. In addition, you can very easily adjust photo backgrounds and erase annoying people from your photo.

Finally, AI can also help you organize notes automatically. This keeps things a lot more organized.

But how is that possible?

You may now be wondering how exactly it is possible that older devices also support AI. The Samsung Galaxy S24 seems to be made specifically for AI. Yet this is just a little different. Many of the AI features work through the cloud. So to enhance a photo with AI, for example, you must have a stable Internet connection.

Because some of the computation is done on the cloud, the Samsung smartphone’s computing power is less of an issue. That’s the reason your Samsung Galaxy S23 FE and Galaxy Z Flip 5 can handle those tasks just fine. So you can do that starting March 28.
