The much-discussed Spotify feature that’s on hold for now

Spotify announced a new feature for better sound last year with much fanfare. However, this one is still waiting to happen.

It has been 10 months since Spotify announced HiFi lossless audio. This feature was supposed to appear in 2021. We are now in 2022 and there is still no sight of the feature. The streaming service kept its lips sealed. Until now.

Spotify can’t deliver on its promise yet

How different it was 10 months ago. Apple Music announced to release HiFi lossless audio. Not to be left behind and show muscle, Spotify said it was working on the same kind of feature. In 2021, this would be launched in several countries to subscribers with a Premium membership. However, it still hasn’t been able to make it happen.

In a new update, it finally lets loose a little more about the feature, but it’s not much. In a message to the community, Spotify asks for ideas. It does let it be known that we’ll have to wait for now. “We know that HiFi quality is important to you. We feel the same and we are excited to bring this feature to Premium members in the future.” Still, it’s not all hopeful. “We have no idea yet when we can bring more details.”

Why is it taking so long?

The big question, of course, is why does it have to take so long and why is there no light at the end of the tunnel yet? So it doesn’t seem to be that easy. Something that Apple Music did just get done before. Apple announced and spatial lossless audio with Dolby Atmos in May and then came out with the feature in June of that year.

The biggest benefit of lossless audio is that the music quality goes up. This allows you to listen to music at the level of a CD.
