PlayStation exclusive Helldivers 2 beats major games based on concurrent players on Steam. Developers even have to limit the number of players.
Helldivers 2 is the latest game from Arrowhead Game Studios. It is a third-person co-op shooter. As the name may give away, it is a sequel to 2015’s Helldivers.
Helldivers 2 was released for Windows and PlayStation 5 and has received generally very positive reviews from critics. This is also reflected in player numbers.

Helldivers 2 is doing very well in terms of concurrent player numbers. On the night of Feb. 18, the shooting game had a whopping 411,359 concurrent Steam players. This is more than the record numbers of popular games such as GTA 5 or Starfield.
This huge number of players caused server problems. For example, players were not getting in-game rewards for completed missions.

The developers of Helldivers 2 were working hard to find a solution. Eventually a maximum player count of 450,000 players had been implemented so that the servers would not go haywire.
Fortunately, this is only temporary. Arrowhead is trying to remove this maximum player count. And if that fails, it wants to at least raise the maximum so that the game can be played by more people.
Unexpected Steam figures
That Helldivers 2 would be such a big hit is a surprise. According to SteamDB, the game is the sixth most played game on Steam, with an average of 180,000 players.
Helldivers 2’s peak player count is 409,367 concurrent players. This makes the game the 23rd most-played game on Steam ever. With this, it beats games such as Halo: Infinite, Destiny 2, GTA 5 and Starfield.

In addition, it is the largest Steam release of a game published by Sony. With this, it beats the previous king: God of War, which had 73,529 concurrent players. It is important to note, however, that God of War did not arrive on Steam until four years after its release.
