Apple wants to change your iPhone forever with Google’s ChatGPT competitor

No AI on your iPhone? Apple is likely to put an end to that soon with the addition of Google’s ChatGPT competitor.

You’ve probably caught on to the fact that many companies have smartphone makers fully committed to AI. Whether it’s the Google Pixel 8 Pro, OnePlus 12, or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, all have various AI features in response to ChatGPT.

At Apple, however, things remain remarkably quiet. Still, there seems to be considerable work going on behind the scenes. For example, the company recently acquired an AI company, and Tim Cook previously let slip that the company is coming up with AI features at WWDC 24. Yet the biggest feature does not seem to be coming from Apple itself, but from Google.

Google’s answer to ChatGPT on the iPhone

Although Google and Apple are at first glance major competitors, the two companies work together in many areas. For example, the two companies have a deal that makes Google the preferred search engine on the iPhone.

Now, according to Bloomberg, the two companies may be entering into a new deal that has everything to do with AI. Through that deal, Apple is going to use the AI model of Google Gemini, ChatGPT’s major competitor.

Apple is going to use Google Gemini technology to introduce various AI features on the iPhone. However, the company is also in talks with ChatGPT maker OpenAI to use GPT models, but whether anything has come out of this is unknown.

Can’t Apple develop its own AI?

Still, it does say something that Apple is looking to partner with Google and OpenAI. It means that Apple is currently unable to develop its own AI model that can compete with ChatGPT and Gemini.

That does not mean, by the way, that there will be no AI at all on the iPhone created by Apple itself. For example, a number of features developed by Apple itself will also be announced during WWDC 24. However, the company needs Google or ChatGPT maker OpenAI so that the user can generate images, for example, or that AI can help with text writing.

Apple, by the way, is not the only company partnering with Google for AI. Samsung, for example, is also working with the ChatGPT competitor to develop some AI features specifically for its Galaxy phones.
